Came across this, he uses a different method for preparing and tying in the wings, looks good, and the flies , not doubt catch fish anywhere!

Nice vid. It’s a good method and one I use a lot for winged wets. Takes a bit of practice to get the feather section right before stripping off the stem. Also highly dependant on the type of feather used. Regular mallard primaries can be difficult. Partridge, grouse, mallard speculae, blackbird and teal seem a lot easier to manipulate into shape.

The tying of the prepared wing onto the hook also takes practice. The secret is the thumb and finger pinch and getting the thread right in there. Plenty of vids online to show that, but if you haven’t done it before, it’ll take a bit of time to get right.

Quill wings are rapidly becoming a lost art as many find them to difficult and it’s a shame A properly tied quill wing, dry or wet is a fine thing!
