Waiohine river flow

Post by Sober Jack » Wed Feb 08, 2017 2:19 pm

Can any Wellington angler tell me what 23m at the Gorge means for the Waiohine? Is that clear and fishable? Just fishable? (Low enough for cicada fishing is the real question)

Hey Jack, not sure about the 23m that you refer to but the flow is around 15 cumecs at the moment. It should be clearish and getting clearer over the next 24 hours after the fresh on Tuesday. Should be OK for the cicada but flows will still be pretty swift and river crossings at anything more than 10 cumecs can be dicey on the Waiohine. Take care if you go for a flick!

Peter is more than qualified to offer advice on the Tararua's flows... here he is from last weekend... this run is normally ankle deep ;) ... mind you he is only 2.6ft tall...

Welcome to the season of high flows!
