UV level "extreme' in winter, according to Accuweather

Is anyone else concerned about this? It is not getting any media coverage for whatever reason, just wondered if any of you had noticed and are anticipating a roasting this season

If you are interested, Accuweather have a UV index under "Hourly" and then scroll down a wee way

Yeah - it does seem high for this time of the year, but I recall something in the news recently about the hole in the ozone layer having grown?

In this day and age I would have thought most fly fisho's don't venture out without SPF 50 rated shirts, sun gloves and Buff head covering? Least not if you don't want to get frazzled...

Andy, yep I do all that, but as you no doubt know it also reflects back up off the water too so it's a mission to protect yourself. Usually end up burnt somewhere, top of the nose is about the hardest area to protect. Might have to custom make a buff balaclava at this rate! Am quietly hoping it's not ever-increasing, but rather caused by some sort of solar cycle.

My old columbia spf pgf (whatever it is) shirt is bloody great for protection. Not sure whether the sunscreen actually works, there's a lot of conflicting information on that stuff.

Hope the invertebrates, roe etc are surviving okay.

I wonder if those numbers are correct on the Accuweather website?
NIWA and other sites are showing levels of 3 to 4 in NZ.

Hey cheers for that, mate. It is a relief to hear that! Perhaps there's just an elaborate plot to gaslight me into giving up fishing

It is getting pretty ruthless these days, the lengths some will go to get the river for themselves! :D
