Hi All,
I don't like the sounds of this! More rafting? Has anyone heard about this?

Hummm, that one slipped through the cracks in regards to consent, that is if they already have consent?

Iv made some calls to find out where this stands at the moment. I'm waiting to hear back and will report back as soon as I hear anything.

That is in my backyard and I don't really want to find out what impact rafting has on fishing next time I am there, thanks for checking it out.

Just getting details at the moment, but sounds like they have had consent for rafting on the Hawea and the Matukituki. Not clear on the Ahuriri situation as it's under Canterbury jurisdiction.

Re: More rafting: Ahuriri, Hawea
Ok so I've spoken to a few people and discovered that they definitely already own consents for running rafting operations on the Matukituki and the Hawea Rivers. They don't currently however have a consent to float the Ahuriri.
I've spoken to the planning department of waitaki district council, and no application for consent to float the river has been applied for yet. I mentioned to them that fish and game will be very concerned if an application was made and I was told that definitely fishing and game would be contacted if an application was received.

Thanks Fraser,
Does that impact the Hawea and Matukituki rivers from a fishing perspective? I'm not familiar with them.

Re: More rafting: Ahuriri, Hawea
Not really. The Hawea is pretty much a purpose built whitewater rafting/kayak course anyway. Has two features built for them on it, and is controlled by gates, so the levels fluctuate so much fish don't into inhabited.
Matukituki is a very big braided river. Personally I fish in a bit but very few do. Can hold some good fish but not very big numbers, so not an issue really.
Ahuriri is a completely different story as you know though.
