Guys I understand and do sympathise. Actually I was talking shit, there's no trout in the NI except for Taupo/Turangi.

I guess it's a sad by-product of the search for the tourist dollar across the country, I will take no convincing that we should be charging tourist anglers several hundred dollars each time for the privilege of fishing here

Haha. Actually Ziffle, the NI is positively full of trout. It's the SI that has nothing left. That's what I tell 'em all!

But seriously yeh it's a big issue and no solution in sight alas.

I've been on many an overseas forum and see people asking for suggestions on fishing in NZ. Most responses completely disregard the NI as "not as good as the SI" and not worth doing. I rarely see anyone planing a trip to fish the NI. Madness really...but fine by me ha!
