Chironomid Midge adult patern

Post by fraser hocks » Wed Sep 07, 2016 6:51 pm

Anyone got a particularly good adult midge patern they mind sharing?

Been fishing a local lake and the fish have been gorging on the adult midge just before they fly of. Got a couple on a wee nymph suspended below a dry but I'd prefer to match the hatch. Tried just about everything in the box, with only close inspection by fish at best. Been fishing the lee shore so getting up close and personal with the fish, but need something to fool these blighters. Any suggestions?

Bucking trends in fly fishing since 1970!

Hey Fraser

Try a wee body of black cdc dubbing or similar with a small tuft of white cdc as a wing and sighter. In sizes 16 to ...20. 8-) I know a basic black spinner in same sizes will do the job as well...

Hi Fraser,

Johnno's description is on the money. Try searching for Glass Bead Midge for more ideas. I think that Davie McPhail may even have a video on YouTube of something suitable.

Mine is simply glass/ plastic clear bead, black thread body and silver rib.
