ITR Stone

Post by Johnno » Sun Sep 04, 2016 2:24 pm

A pattern based on the "In the round" ideas of Charles Brooks. He wrote two very important books: "The trout and the stream" and "Nymph Fishing for larger trout". Both published in the early - mid 1970's. If you see a copy of either, just get it. His ideas and methods were way ahead of their time and if you read closely, he describes Czech nymphing almost exactly as it is today. The ITR Stones I tie are heavy, up to .8 of a gram, up to size 6 and even 4, and a bitch to cast on a 6 wgt but they work. Designed to be fished in the heavy bruising water right at the head of the riffles and runs, where the big fish are.... No namby pamby pretty flies with wingcases and legs for these suckers. Bounced and pushed around in that swift, deep heavy bubbly water, they look the same no matter what their angle: Fish food, through and through.
